Sergio Aguero scores hat trick as Man City ease past Gladbach in UCL
After their Champions League group stage game was delayed 24 hours by rain, Manchester City beat Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0 on Wednesday night.
And City went ahead inside nine minutes as Aleksandar Kolarov’s low cross was turned home at the near post by Sergio Aguero, back in the side amid his domestic suspension for elbowing Winston Reid.
City should have extended their lead soon after as Ilkay Gundogan’s shot from inside the box was saved by Yann Sommer. But Gundogan had a hand in the second as he was tripped on the edge of
the box and Aguero slotted home.
Claudio Bravo was called upon to keep the score at 2-0 just before the half as the goalkeeper got down well to keep out Lars Stindl’s low drive.
Early in the second half, Sommer denied Aguero again after spilling the ball at his near post and the goalkeeper managed to get a leg on Raheem Sterling’s shot when the forward was through on goal.
Aguero rounded off a fine performance with his hat trick in the 77th minute as the ball was slipped behind the defence for the striker to take it past the goalkeeper and slot home.
Kelechi Iheanacho then smashed home from close range after good work from Leroy Sane to make it 4-0 in the final minute.
