Fernandinho briefing me ahead of Manchester City switch – Gabriel Jesus
Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus says he has taken advantage of Fernandinho’s recall by quizzing the Manchester City midfielder about the club ahead of his January switch to the Premier League.
19-year-old Palmeiras starlet Gabriel Jesus has agreed to join Pep Guardiola’s side at the end of the current Brazilian league campaign.
But Fernandinho won’t be the only one he will be relying on as he attempts to adapt to a new life in England.
“The more knowledge I have about the club ahead of my arrival the better,” Gabriel Jesus told a press conference.
“It will be a shock to me, but I have talked to him a lot about everything that could help me. I think he will be a big help there. But so will my mother, who will be coming with me.”
The Olympic gold medallist is set to lead the line once again on Tuesday as Brazil travel to Caracas to face Venezuela without the suspended Neymar.
But Gabriel Jesus believes new coach Tite can steer the side to a fourth consecutive victory in World Cup qualification without the Barcelona star.
“When the collective works, the individuals with show themselves,” he said.
“We must always give preference to the collective. We have to play as Brazil. Nobody is a lone protagonist. We have to continue to do what we have been doing.”
“We will go in search of the win. We are from the country of football and so are always expected to win, but it will not be an easy game.”
Gabriel Jesus struggled in the early stages of the Olympic Games as local media speculated that the teenager was overawed by the task of leading the Selecao to a historic first gold medal, but exploded in the third group game and has made a stunning start to life as a senior international.
And he says he is learning quickly that a strong head is every bit as important as a talented pair of feet.
“I placed a lot of attention on my overall behaviour on the field, because sometimes you can lose your head,” he said.
“When the team is losing, you can become upset and mixed up, shying away from the play and lose control. But I feel I am improving there. We must all constantly work on way to improve.”
