Manchester United’s match against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Saturday will be officiated by Andre Marriner, the Premier League has confirmed.
Marriner has yet to referee an Arsenal game this season, but was in the middle for Jose Mourinho’s first match as United boss when they won at Bournemouth on the opening weekend of the season.
Mourinho will return to the touchline after serving a one-match ban for confronting referee Mark Clattenburg in the Red Devils’ last home match, a frustrating 0-0 draw at home to Burnley.
And the Portuguese has previously had a run-in with Saturday’s referee. In January 2015 Mourinho
complained repeatedly Marriner as fourth official during Chelsea’s defeat at Tottenham Hotspur after referee Phil Dowd had failed to give a penalty.
And he will renew his fiery relationship with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, with Mourinho having criticised his opposite number on several occasions — including when he famously referred to the Frenchman as a specialist in failure.
United will be without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who picked up his fifth booking of the season in the 3-1 win a Swansea last time out, while the Gunners will hope Alexis Sanchez returns unscatched from Chile’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay after sitting out Thursday’s 0-0 draw in Colombia.
